Tyson Fury has vowed to fight Oleksandr Usyk for the chance to become the undisputed king of heavyweight rng boxing as the Ukrainian confirmed their meeting on 23 December in Saudi Arabia rng
Usyk was ringside for Fury’s unconvincing split-decision victory over ex-UFC champion Francis Ngannou in Riyadh on Saturday night rng
MMA star Ngannou shockingly went the distance in his rng boxing debut, even knocking down reigning WBC heavyweight champion Fury at one point, but Fury remained undefeated rng
Two judges gave Fury the fight by scores of 96-93 and 95-94, and the other judge favoured Ngannou 95-94 rng
Fury’s championship belt was never on the line in this bout, though it counts as an official fight rng
Good thing for Fury, because Ngannou showed early in the scheduled 10-round fight that he wasn’t going anywhere rng
Afterwards Usyk, who owns the other three global heavyweight belts, turned attention to their showdown, saying: “It’s a big fight rng
The whole world wants this fight rng
We’re back in this ring, 23 December, thank you very much, I go to sleep rng
”Fury said: “It’s been going on a long time, let’s do the fight, over here, for all the belts, the undisputed title of the world rng
Listen, it’s not up to me, we’d go now rng
These guys will sort it out, it’ll be my next fight guaranteed rng
”Fury’s promoter Frank Warren said: “I don’t think the date will be announced just yet rng
This fight is on rng
Both fighters want it rng
Tyson’s got a cut there rng
We’ll see how it heals rng
It’s the biggest fight in rng boxing rng
Everybody wants to see it rng
They’ll see it in Saudi, it’ll break all box office records rng
”Fury was knocked down by Ngannou (Getty Images)Fury had previously criticised the timing of an initial announcement of his fight with Usyk, which came out during his preparations for Ngannou rng
“It wasn’t my choice,” the Briton, 35, said on The MMA Hour on Wednesday 25 October rng
“I would never in a million years do that, but the people who are putting these fights on, who are paying the money, they’re in control rng
They’re the promoters of the event rng
“So, the paymaster does what the paymaster wants, basically rng
But if it was up to me, I would have never, ever, ever done that, ever rng
Because I never count chickens before they hatch, ever [ rng
rng
rng
] They should never announce fights before the first one happens, because that’s how people get knocked out rng
“But I’m not even looking at the next fight rng
I’m only concentrating on Francis rng
If it means breaking these two hands and getting a cut right through [my eyebrow] to win, I will do it rng
Don’t worry about that rng
Nothing else matters, only Saturday night rng
“I wasn’t happy at first, for them to announce it, but there was a lot going on in the background rng
For me, I don’t concentrate on any other fight other than Saturday night rng
What happens in the future stays in the future rng
“I’m living for today and this moment rng
My moment now is to fight Francis for the ‘baddest man on the planet’ title, and when I’ve won that, only after I’ve won that, I won’t even think about my next [fight] until I’ve had a week off and spent some time with my family rng
I’ve been in camp 12 weeks rng

England forward Courtney Lawes will retire from international rugby at the end of the Rugby World Cup rng
The 34-year-old won a 105th cap for his country in the semi-final defeat to South Africa at the Stade de France, confirming afterwards that this tournament would be his last involvement at Test level rng
Lawes could feature for a final time in an England shirt in Friday’s third-place play-off against Argentina rng
“I think it’s time,” said Lawes, England’s fifth most-capped male player, suggesting that he had a desire to spend more time with his children rng
“I’ve done four World Cups, so I’m pretty happy with that rng
“The kids are at that age where they need their dad around rng
It will be good to be with them more, to provide some well needed structure to the mob rng
“It’s a bit of an end of an era, but it’s been a real honour for me to represent England for so long rng
I’m proud of the journey I’ve been on rng
It’s not always been the ups rng
Plenty of downs in there, but I’ve pushed through rng
“I’m not an emotional person really, but it’s just been a huge honour for me, to be honest rng
To be able to finish with this group is something I’ll treasure forever rng
”Courtney Lawes will retire from England duty at the end of the tournament in France (Getty Images)A one-club man, Lawes is contracted at Northampton Saints for another season and intends to play on domestically rng
He made his England debut in November 2009, coming on to partner now head coach Steve Borthwick in the second row in a defeat to Australia, and went on to win three Six Nations championships across his career rng
Having played most of his career at lock, including starting the 2019 World Cup final at lock, the always-versatile Lawes has been stationed on the blindside for most of the last four years rng
A series of impressive performances earned Lawes selection for a second British & Irish Lions tour in South Africa in 2021, and the forward captained his country for the first time against Tonga later that year rng
He began this World Cup as England’s skipper while Owen Farrell served his suspension, leading the side to two victories and scoring only his second Test try in the win over Japan rng
“I have so many [great memories],” Lawes stressed rng
“I think, as hard as it is being away from your family and stuff like that, you almost have another family rng
You really feel like that, especially when you’re away in camps like World Cup camps rng
Courtney Lawes scored only his second England try against Japan in Nice (PA Wire)“It’s five months of staying with your brothers rng
I’ll definitely miss the boys, the banter and all the suff we get up to when we’re not training rng
“From the last World Cup to this one, with the group of lads we’ve had coming through, I’ve really enjoyed being part of the group rng
You can see what it really means for us to play for each other rng
“When you come up against teams like South Africa, where everyone thinks you’re going to get slaughtered, and you find another level for each other rng
So I’ll miss this group of boys specifically rng
“We’ve had a lot of good times with these lads rng
I’ll definitely miss pulling the jersey on and giving it everything rng
”England will face Argentina in a battle for third place at the Stade de France on Friday night in their final match of the World Cup rng
Borthwick has suggested that he is fully intent on winning the game, opening the door for a farewell appearance for Lawes even at the end of a long campaign rng
Steve Borthwick has hailed Courtney Lawes’s intelligence and work-rate (Getty Images)The England head coach hailed his vice-captain’s qualities nearly a decade and a half after welcoming him into the Test fold as a player rng
Borthwick said: “We could talk about his trademark Courtney Lawes low tackles that cut the attackers down in their path, [but] what I see in Courtney is somebody who covers the ground rng
“In crucial moments, he finds himself in the right place at the right time just so often rng
That’s a real sign of the intelligence of the player, a sign of the understanding of the player rng
“That’s what he continues to do rng
[He has] more than 100 caps now, and you can see how hungry he is to help the team by the way he runs rng
